Tillandsia ionantha var. mexico ist eine natürliche Form der Tillandsia ionantha, die in den trockeneren Höhenlagen Mexikos vorkommt. Sie gilt als eine der urtümlicheren Varianten dieser Art und zeichnet sich durch ein eher offenes Rosettenwachstum und hohe Anpassungsfähigkeit aus.

Merkmale:

Tillandsia ionantha var. mexico bildet lockere, etwas größere Rosetten mit silbrig-grünen, leicht ausladenden Blättern. Zur Blütezeit färben sich die inneren Blätter leuchtend rot bis pink, aus denen violette Röhrenblüten hervortreten. Im Vergleich zu anderen ionantha-Formen wirkt sie rustikaler und wächst häufig etwas schneller. Sie bildet nach der Blüte zuverlässig Kindel.

Pflegehinweise:

Licht: Sehr hell bis sonnig – direkte Sonne wird gut vertragen und fördert die intensive Färbung.
Wasser: 2–3× pro Woche besprühen oder gelegentlich tauchen. Danach vollständig abtrocknen lassen.
Luftfeuchtigkeit: Mittel bis hoch (50–70 %) – gute Belüftung erforderlich.
Dünger: im Frühjahr und Sommer 1–2× pro Monat mit unserem speziellen Tillandsien- oder Orchideendünger in verdünnter Form.
Temperatur: 16–30 °C, äußerst robust – kurzzeitig bis etwa 5 °C frostfrei haltbar.

Hinweis: Diese Variante eignet sich besonders gut für trockene, luftige Standorte und ist durch ihre Widerstandsfähigkeit und gute Kindelbildung ideal für Anfänger und Sammlungen mit Fokus auf Standortformen.

Our greenhouses are equipped with modern energy screens and double glazing to efficiently save on heating costs. Additionally, we collect rainwater over the entire roof area of 9,000 square meters and use only this water to irrigate all our crops. We collect the rainwater in underground tanks with a total volume of 600,000 liters.

Since 2014, the heating has been supported by a solar thermal system with an annual yield of about 20 megawatt-hours.

In 2020, we installed a photovoltaic system with 30 kW peak and have been producing more green electricity per year than our entire operation requires.

Since 2021, we use exclusively pots for our self-produced plants that are not only 100% recyclable but are also entirely made from recycled pots. To this end, we collect all used pots that arise in our operation and have them picked up in big bags by our pot supplier Göttinger. There, the pots are cleaned and processed in a water-free recycling facility into new pots that come back to us.
